Bed bugs are becoming an increasing problem in Hollywood, Florida and around the U.S. This is due to increasing foreign travel, close living quarters, and the increase in the exchange of second-hand furniture. In the past year specifically, we’ve been dealing with an increase in infestations of bedbugs in Hollywood and the surrounding area.
Bed bugs have made the news a lot across the U.S. So what is the big deal? Bed bugs have a way of making their presence known in such a way that makes it nearly impossible to ignore them. This is because while you sleep, bed bugs come out to feed on you. They do this by using its stylet, which has small teeth, to saw through tissue in order to find blood. The bed bug will then suck the blood of the human for about 5 to 10 minutes before returning to its hiding place, just to return days later and repeat the process. Now, if it were just one bed bug, that would be bad enough. But as with many pests, where there is one, there are usually many. What makes things worse is that as the bed bug feeds it also injects its saliva into the body of the human it is feeding on. This saliva can create swelling and cause intense itching.
It’s often difficult to detect Hollywood bed bugs. They will usually hide and lay eggs in the seams of the mattress. You will know if you have bed bugs either from the bite marks and swelling, or from your bedsheets which will probably have blood smears on them. You may also notice small fecal spots on the sheets or on your bed posts.
